DESCRIPTION

Transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals require inclusive, affirming, and knowledgeable gynecologic care that addresses their unique health needs. Gynecologists play a key role in gender-affirming surgical care, particularly in counseling patients on surgical considerations. Specialized knowledge of perioperative and long-term postoperative care after surgery is essential to ensure optimal health outcomes. As research continues to expand, gynecologists remain central to advancing transgender health and advocating for high-quality, evidence-based care for this population.

With up to 3% of the population identifying as TGD, there is a growing need for culturally competent healthcare providers who understand the specific medical and surgical considerations in transgender care. Studies indicate that while many gynecologists and primary care physicians express willingness to care for TGD patients, gaps in knowledge about appropriate screening guidelines and best practices remain. This session will equip healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to provide equitable, respectful, and evidence-based gynecologic care for transgender and gender-diverse individuals, ensuring their healthcare experiences are both safe and affirming.
