The Women’s Medical Alliance of Des Moines University invites girls in grades 4-7 to Girls Exploring Medicine & Science, a morning event designed to expose and inspire students to careers in healthcare. Girls will experience a variety of workshops such as:

> ANATOMY | See how things like smoking can hurt your lungs and understand how a brain works.

> MICROBIOLOGY | Use a microscope and get a close look at the bacteria that cause common illnesses.

> OSTEOPATHIC MANUAL MEDICINE | Learn how your skeletal system and muscles work together, and how our students train to treat problems.

> PODIATRY | We’ll look at the structure of the foot and participate in a casting or taping activity.

> SURGERY | Learn how to scrub in for surgery and put on surgical gowns and gloves in our mock operating room.

> BASIC FIRST AID | Learn skills that will help keep siblings and the kids you babysit safe.

> DERMATOLOGY | Make and take home products for healthy skin.

> PHYSICAL THERAPY | Get moving and see how the body system responds.

> NUTRITION | Ride a blender bike and see how to plan a balanced diet.

Saturday, March 30 at Des Moines University Student Education Center Breakfast and lunch provided

7.15-8am Drop off period

8.30-12.30pm Girls rotate through stations

12.30pm Lunch and Keynote

1pm Pick up
